Sprouts: Early Years
Connect with nature in our Parent and Tot outdoor play program!
Sprouts: Early Years is a Parent and Tot outdoor play program where toddlers and children (ages 2-5) can inclusively embrace sensory-friendly activities with care and compassion. In this program, toddlers and children will have opportunities to build coordination, cooperation and co-creation skills where all involved will learn to work with one another and build trust through songs, stories and inquiry-based play approaches.
Early learners will nurture their sense of wonder and expand their curiosities for the world around them through inquiry-based approaches that nourish nature connection. Our Sprouts: Early Years program will give your child the opportunity to develop their fine and gross motor skills, interact with other children and families, explore, and develop foundational ecological connections in an unrivaled setting.
Take a sneak peek into our 'Day In The Life' to learn more about Sprouts: Early Years and view our Sprouts Parent and Tot Handbook for more information. Join us for a memorable learning journey for you and your toddler in the lower Don Valley at Evergreen Brick Works!

What do you do in inclement weather?
We’re outside as much as possible! We love the outdoors at Evergreen and spend as much time outside as we can. That being said, we do have access to covered and/or indoor spaces at all times and can spend some time inside in cases of extreme weather.
From May-September, should hot conditions arise where levels have reached above a humidex of 37°C, our heat contingency plans will be in effect where parents and toddlers will move indoors, take more shade breaks and water breaks. Families will be reminded and notified via email about any heat warnings from Toronto Public Health for everyone to remember to bring their cap/hat, sunscreen and water bottles.
From October-May, temperatures and winter wind conditions (as wind-chill rating) will be tracked, and levels below a wind-chill of -20 degrees Celsius will trigger our extreme cold policy. If the outside temperature/wind-chill are between -20 and -28 degrees Celsius, parents and toddlers can be outside for approximately 15-20 minutes at a time only. During programming, program facilitators and outdoor educators will supplement outdoor activities with indoor ones at Evergreen Brick Works.
What does a typical Sprouts: Early Years day look like?
Programming begins at 9:30am sharp and we highly encourage parents and toddlers to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the program start time.

How will Sprouts: Early Years be kept COVID-19 safe for parents and toddlers?
We encourage everyone to self-screen using this tool prior to arrival on site.
Please note that we are a mask-friendly space, and we respect your choice and the choice of others. Toddlers and children will be washing their hands routinely throughout the day with soap and warm water and/or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when not close to washrooms.
