Children & Youth Programs
Help tomorrow’s city builders connect with nature.
Evergreen’s Children & Youth programs connect children and youth to nature in immersive, active, exploratory activities in Toronto. Programs range from curriculum-based school programs and clubs to informal drop-in nature play in our Children’s Garden, and camps in the summer and at other times of the year.
Volunteers in these programs are fundamental to offering dynamic, impactful experiences for youth, their families and educators. Most of these opportunities require that the volunteer team be onboarded and trained prior to the start of the program.
Note: Most roles in this area will require the completion of a Vulnerable Sector check.

Public Markets
Create engaging public spaces to connect people with the local food and maker economy.
Evergreen’s Public Markets program fosters connections to a sustainable food system for all while supporting an equitable regional economy. By creating opportunities where people can experience good food, community, culture and nature while supporting local farmers and makers, we are engaging and educating residents and visitors about building flourishing cities.
Volunteers in Public Markets are at the heart of engaging and educating the public while ensuring well-run activations. We have activations in all seasons, such as Winter Village, Summer Wednesdays and more.

Urban Agriculture & Community Stewardship
Get your hands dirty and grow.
Evergreen’s Regenerative Landscapes programs offer inspiration and learning opportunities while enhancing urban ecosystems, connecting communities to nature and creating healthier cities. Regenerative Landscapes programs in Toronto take place at Evergreen Brick Works, ranging from food growing and composting to ecological gardening.
Volunteers in urban agriculture and community stewardship come with all levels of experience and learn through doing.

Urban Activation
Get residents more involved and active in flourishing communities.
In a variety of ways, Evergreen works to get the public engaged in discovering their communities and cities, turning spaces into great places for all. Through the Don River Valley Park project in Toronto, we are transforming the Lower Don into a vibrant, accessible civic space focusing on nature, culture and active living. Activation with this program includes walks, bike rides and more, along with community bike hubs and pop-ups dotted along the valley.

Festivals and Events
Make one-time events great.
Throughout the year, Evergreen hosts a series of special events and activations, primarily at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto. These events connect, empower and educate the public around gardening, the sharing economy, seasonal celebrations, art exhibits, cultural diversity and flourishing cities.
Volunteers in this area are at the core of creating amazing, engaging experiences for participants. Volunteers will be invited to support events such as Day of the Dead and the Future Cities Canada Summit.
Evergreen is committed to providing a rewarding volunteer experience and welcomes volunteers from diverse backgrounds and all walks of life. We value the skills, experience, enthusiasm and contributions volunteer bring. We adhere to the principle of right to equal treatment without discrimination. If you require specific accommodations in order to participate in the volunteer program please let us know.
Evergreen has a variety of volunteer roles throughout the year and do our best to ensure a good match where volunteers can have a real impact. Evergreen welcomes volunteers of different ages – those 14 and under need to volunteer with a parent or guardian in appropriate roles while some roles have age restrictions due to the nature of the role.
